Living with Lupus

Quoted in The Roanoke Times. An excerpt is included below. To read the full piece, click here.

“Dr. Karim Richard Masri of the Arthritis and Osteoporosis Center of Richmond said patients who understand their diseases become empowered through their knowledge, creating a mind-over-matter effect that could actually allow drugs and therapies to work even better.

Masri, who does not treat Wilberger, said he encourages all his chronic disease patients to have a thorough understanding of their diseases, and to bring ideas to the table rather than relying solely on their physician’s advice.

“There’s nothing more empowering for the patient-physician relationship than a patient that really wants to be involved in their care and wants to be on top of it,” Masri said.

“Those are the patients that are going to do better.”
